Teen Angst – Issue #18

Teen Angst is an zine produced twice a year by first year students at the University of Canterbury (Ilam School of Fine Arts). It is produced over a six week period where students contact artists and graphic designers locally, nationally and globally to make a zine about the creatives in our world.

I was lucky enough being a student to take part in this project. We reached out to artists and asked them 2 simple questions:

  • When you’re working in the studio, what music do you like to listen to?
  • Could you send us a photo of what you listen to your music on? (i.e headphones, speakers, etc)

From the replies we got back from designers/artists we then created pages for our zine in response to the music/way they listened to music. Each different page represents a different artists/designer/creative. Some pages directly reference the artist, some represent their music or the sound system; some only represent the student’s response; and some reference all of them.

Everyone involved had their own individual takes on how their pages should be made/handled and it was great fun to see the diversity of work we created together.

Thank you to the first year students of the Ilam School of Fine Arts who were involved in this project, and Thank you to the artist’s who responded and lent a small bit of their time writing an email to help us create this work.
